Wood you Recycle Floors?

INSTUDIO Interior Design Directors have developed a design library of interior finish materials that is always in a state of evolution. When researching recycled flooring materials INSTUDIO requested information from Pioneer Millworks a company that has a specialty in reclaimed & sustainable wood flooring.

When Portland, Oregon based sales representative Ross Burtness was in San Francisco on business, he stopped by INSTUDIO to show examples of reclaimed wood flooring products and answer questions about Pioneer Millworks. While catalogues and websites are great nothing beats seeing the beauty of the grain, color, texture and finish of actual large size wood samples.

Ross explained that the wood used to produce solid and engineered floors is salvaged from a variety of sources, primarily barns and industrial buildings scheduled to be demolished. Pioneer Woodworks also works with materials salvaged from other recyclable sources such as water tanks, wine vats, shipping crates, and rafts from the logging industry.

A large selection of beautiful recycled hard and softwoods were seen including species of Pine, Oak, Ash, Hickory, Walnut, Chestnut and Douglass Fir. Pioneer Woodworks is careful not to remove what history and original wear these boards have, they leave the character, saw marks and original patina in place. A bit of Americana is reflected in the names of their surface grades “American Gothic”, “Grandma’s Attic”, “Settlers’ Plank” and “Knotty ‘N’ Naily” surfaces can become a part of your interior design plan.

Green design can be imbued with rustic history or refined elegance when you select reclaimed & sustainable wood flooring to enhance your home or business.
