Evolution of the Tolomeo Lamp

In 1987 Italian lighting manufacturer Artemide introduced the contemporary classic Tolomeo table lamp designed by architects Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina. In 1989 the Tolomeo table/task was given the Italian industrial design award “Compasso d’Oro” for achieving the perfect marriage between design and engineering. The lamp has become a global icon.

Over decades a complete series of models would be developed in different sizes form micro to mega for use anywhere in residential or business interior design. The Tolomeo has versions as Table/Task Lamps, Floor Lamps, Wall Mounted Lighting, Clip or Clamp Lamps and Suspension applications. The original metal shades were softened with the development of optional parchment paper shades. Color was added to add fun to the table lamps in another evolution of the Atemide classic.
